Meet the Artist
Stacie Shuster
SS Customs Arts was born from a deep passion for creating original wearable and displayable art. At the heart of every piece is the ancient technique of batik — a centuries-old tradition in which hot molten wax is applied to fabric as a dye resist, preserving intricate designs in vivid, layered color. Stacie designs and handcrafts each piece individually, ensuring that no two works are ever the same.
Whether worn as clothing or displayed as art, every batik Stacie creates is a one-of-a-kind original — a reflection of her creativity, her skill, and her dedication to a craft that has endured for thousands of years. That same spirit of individuality extends to her wind hangings, which are handmade using natural driftwood and rocks personally gathered from the lakes and landscapes of Northern Minnesota, the place she calls home. Each wind hanging is a living piece of the land — equally at home indoors or outdoors — and as unique as the natural materials that inspired it.
All of Stacie's work is signed with her signature SS symbol, a mark of authenticity that represents her artistry and her love for creating pieces that are truly one of a kind.

History of Batik
The Ancient Art of Batik:
Handcrafted Originals Rooted in Tradition
For over 2,000 years, the art of batik has stood as one of the world's most enduring textile traditions — a practice built on patience, skill, and a deep connection between maker and material. Using the ancient method of hot molten wax as a dye resist, each piece is individually designed and handmade, transforming natural fabric into a one-of-a-kind wearable or displayable work of art.
Every batik begins with an original design, drawn and applied entirely by hand. The hot wax is carefully worked into the fabric, resisting the dye and preserving the artist's vision in vivid color and intricate pattern. No two pieces are ever alike — each one carries the mark of the hands that made it and the creative spirit behind it. All work is signed with the artist's signature SS symbol, a personal mark of authenticity and pride.
Beyond wearable art, the collection includes handmade wind hangings crafted for display both indoors and outdoors. These striking pieces are grounded in the natural beauty of Northern Minnesota, incorporating driftwood and rocks personally gathered from the lakes and landscapes of the region. Each wind hanging is as much a piece of the land as it is a work of art — a one-of-a-kind creation that brings the spirit of the north woods into any space.
This is art made with intention, rooted in ancient craft, and shaped by the place and community that inspire it.
